Hi Class!
If you've stumbled onto this blog, you must have been looking at our D2L page.
I think D2L is pretty boring, so instead of using the discussion board there, we'll use this blog to post reading response prompts and you can reply with your response.
For the first week, post a reply to this entry introducing yourself.

My name is Sarah Wangler. I'll be the instructor for ENGL2513-005. I am a poet, and I'm working on a book of poems right now as my MFA thesis. I've recently published poems/have poems coming out in Moon City Review, The Superstition Review, and Best New Poets 2010. I have an MA in English (teaching writing) and a BA in Spanish Language and Literature. I came to Stillwater to study with Lisa Lewis and Ai and to work on a book. I live with a gray tabby/siamese cat named Koko on the top floor of a house. My favorite books are Consider the Lobster by David Foster Wallace, Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen, Late Wife by Claudia Emerson, and Sea Garden by H.D. When I was an undergraduate, my favorite books were The Edible Woman & The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, Reservation Blues by Sherman Alexie, and The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.
ReplyDeleteSo, an introduction, huh? Well, my name is Nathan Fox. I'm 19, and I'm a Sophomore. I'm from Choctaw, OK. I thought I'd take this class because I like to write, and it seems like this class will help hone and expand my previous writing skills, and hopefully create new ones. I've got a pretty good collection of poems in a word document that used to be on Facebook. I live on campus, in the suite-style dormitory named Zink. I live with my best friend. I'm an extrovert, in most circumstances, and love conversation. I'm not much of a reader, however. I spend most of my time listening to music, and really focus on getting music with powerful lyrics. Thus, I end up writing many poems because I draw my inspiration from many music artists. My music tastes are extremely diverse. If you're legitimately curious, just ask me. I do have favorite books, though, and they are as follows: "One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest" by Ken Kesey; "Heart of Darkness" by Joseph Conrad; and "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury. I'm pretty laid back most of the time, and I like meeting new people! The end!
ReplyDeleteWell, hello there! Ashley Dean's the name. When people ask me where I'm from, I reply with, "Do you want to know where I was born, where I grew up, or where I graduated?" I've moved around a lot. 7 times to be exact. I was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, but raised mostly in Utah, but graduated in Perry, Oklahoma. I am 18, but I started my college career at the age of 17 (last semester). My major is currently in Aerospace Engineering, but I will be changing it to Computer Engineering. Computers are more fascinating to me than planes. I bet you're wondering, "Why's an engineering student in Creative Writing?" Well, there are two reasons: One, It's being counted as a humanities. Two, I really love English. My mom thought that I would be majoring in English because I love it so much. And I just might do it. If you looked at the degree I wanted in a few years, it would be pretty crazy: Double major in Computer Engineering and English; Double minor in Japanese language and Computer Science. My literature tastes are pretty old. I enjoy Shakespeare plays and Sherlock Holmes stories. I am really fond of the Harry Potter series, but the only Narnia book I enjoyed was "The Magician's Nephew". I like to analyze and annotate things, crazily enough, and discussing the denotations and connotations of anything really makes me happy. I love movies, "Doctor Who", and I write like I talk. No offense to poems, but I prefer short stories over them. And don't worry, I'm done.
ReplyDeleteI always hate introducing myself.I can never think of all the right things to say but oh well..here goes nothing. My name is Rochelle Vanover.I hate it when people mess up saying my name.I'm 19.My birthday is on Earth Day.I am a sophomore and I live in the dorm Stinchcomb.I am from Miami,OK.And it is pronounced My-am-uh.My major is currently Animal Science with a double major in Agriculture Education however I would like to pursue a career in photography.I love being creative.I've been through alot in my life as a small child and in 8th grade I learned how to express myself artistically through drawings and poems.I love to read.My favorite author is Jane Austen.I also enjoy reading Shakespeare from time to time.I love any romantic book or movie. And I think thats all.
ReplyDeleteIntroductions are not my strong point, but I am inordinately glad that I am typing this as opposed to saying it in front of our class. My name is Kristina Earl and I am taking creative writing as a way to broaden the scope of my writing prowess. And to hopefully become more, you know, creative. I am majoring in broadcast journalism and aspire to someday become an editor. I have always been passionate about reading and writing and count some of the classics we read in high school as my favorites. I enjoyed Of Mice and Men, Catch 22, the Dollhouse, etc. I am incredibly intrigued by Cormac McCarthy's writing style in No Country for Old Men. I mainly just enjoy the unusual.
ReplyDeleteIntroducing myself.
ReplyDeleteWell first off,
I hate when people type out a bunch of information in one large paragraph. Easy on the eyes. Gosh.
Secondly,
That was a joke. This is an important thing about me. Its all about humor and satire with me and it will show in my writing. I spend way too much time on the Internet and eventually everything becomes a joke. Because there is a meme for everything on the Interwebz.
Fourthly,
I hate the number 3.
Fifthly,
I suppose some real information about me now. My name is Cal Garbe. I am from Owasso. This is my last semester as I am graduating in May with a degree in Sports Journalism and Broadcast Production.
After graduating I would like to end up with The Onion as a Production Assistant or even in charge of some content.
My favorite book is 1984.
The book I am reading now is Men At Work. It is about the intricacies of baseball.
So thats all about me.
How about you??

ReplyDeleteMy name is Patrick. I'm the little guy in the class (this will become funnier when you meet me). I am pretty shy at first but that will change throughout the semester. When I'm not at school i am a senior mechanic at a small shop in the woodlands, TX where i am from. i could literally watch Tosh.0 all the time and never get bored of it! the main reason I'm taking this class is to learn others writing styles and improve my own. I turn 19 tomorrow January 15th! The End!
ReplyDeleteHi, everyone!!! My name is Sosuke Nakano, from Japan. It is my 4th semester (that means I'm sophomore) and I'm used to Oklahoma State University. I like soccer, and Manchester United is my favorite team among other things. Manchester United is an English strong team, and there are a lot of fans all over the world. I take a lot of sleep. The reason is because my condition does not rise unless it finds a lot of sleeps. i live in the Wentz Hall 6th floor in only me.(No roommates) The nobody living does not care about another person and finishes it. Therefore I am very carefree. I'm shy person but will change myself a little throughout this semeester.
ReplyDeleteAshley - I'm the same way about answering the question "Where are you from?" so I usually just end up saying Tulsa-ish. I went to high school in Tulsa (Booker T. Washington) but I moved to the middle of nowhere between Collinsville and Owasso when I was a junior.
ReplyDeleteI used to write lyrics often when I was in middle and high school, but then school and work got the best of me. One of my life ambitions is to have a book published (probably of the teen-chick genre).
I'm a junior, an RA in Stout, and I'm very excited to be a middle school science teacher (physical science and chemistry, none of that biological science stuff). I'm currently reading "Captivating" and the Narnia series--I'm on the 4th book.
Not gonna lie, one of my biggest pet-peeves is when people mix up the words "fewer" and "less"...please stop me if I ever do.
My writing is amateur, and I welcome your constructive criticism.
Hello, my name is Blake Farrow and I'm from Purcell, Oklahoma. I'm also a freshman here at OSU.
ReplyDeleteThe reason I took this class is because I love reading and have been trying to write short stories in my free time, so don't expect too much from my poetry.
My major is biological science but i am unsure as to what my career is going to be exactly. If you were you to ask me my favorite book, I couldn't choose just one. But i just got done reading The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway and a book of short stories by Graham Greene
Hey everyone! I'm Kate. I'm from the Virginia/Tennessee line so either state really. I tend to take life seriously but not myself. I'm not sure what my major is yet, I'm leaning toward something in business but i may change it on a whim. My favorite book is "the world made straight" by ron rash, its about a pot dealer ... pretty badass. My favorite writer is Lorrie Moore just because I tend to write a lot like her.
ReplyDeleteWhat's up everyone my name is Clint Giwer and I'm usually wearing a hoodie. I am a senior at OSU and I am graduating in May. I moved to Oklahoma from North Carolina 8 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI love to read but writing is a little more difficult for me because I am extremely critical of everything I write (80% of the time I think it sucks and hours of revision doesn't help). somewhere down the line like in 20 years I can see myself writing a novel.
Well I will try to keep the class as lively as I can because I am a pretty funny person. Oh and I am terrible with names so dont expect me to remember yours in the first couple weeks.
Hello!
ReplyDeleteI'm Christy, a former Air Force Brat who has lived in six states (counting Oklahoma of course) in the continental U.S. and two European countries, Spain and Germany. I'm majoring in Spanish with a minor in English which I plan to fulfill with writing classes. The dream is to emigrate to either Latin America or Morocco (Spanish will make French easier to learn, no?) and live amongst the beautiful brown people.
Sad to say, I haven't read a whole book in my spare time for fun in god knows how long. This was not true in my younger years, the brain drain of adulthood has begun no matter how hard I have tried to keep it at bay, when I ate up books like candy.
Alright. That's it. Have a nice day, people!
HELLO..!
ReplyDeleteI'm John Furniss. I'm an 18 year old kid from Dallas, Texas. I live with my mom, and my sister just got married. I gave her away and that was one of the best moments of my life. I'm a very opinionated person, a very loyal person, and a person who on the outside looking in seems to have it all figured out. I'm majoring in sport's public relations and after I earn that degree I plan on attending law school to get my sport's law degree. My dream is to work with a big team, in a huge city. Los Angeles, Miami, New York City; places like that. Over the summer I worked for the Dallas Mavericks and loved it, but I feel like I want to be someplace even bigger than Dallas. In my head I go through a lot of things...I'm constantly analyzing things over and over...and to work it all out I write a lot of things down...a big Word document with my thoughts basically. So creative writing seemed like the perfect class!
Hello this is Matt Shuff. I am a bit late on this post, but will introduce myself anyway. I am from Southlake, TX which is in between Dallas and Ft. Worth. I am 19 years old and a sophomore majoring in economics. In the past writing has come easily to me but often i am just b.s.ing my way through papers instead of actually creating something i am proud of. I hope to learn how to write with more enthusiasm and creativity through taking this class.
